JPS Character Education develops servant leaders through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. Our courses motivate educators to connect with students and craft lesson plans rooted in character.

JPS Character Education was established by Jim Place in 2010 as a way to inspire educators to develop their social and emotional skills to encourage positive youth development.

We have provided over 4,000 educators with university-accredited character education classes, over 200 teacher professional development workshops, and 100+ statewide football clinic trainings.

Our Founder

An Ohio Hall of Fame Coach, Jim Place's coaching experience lead him to develop his signature SEL curriculum courses on community, student engagement, and character development. Jim received the Ohio High School Football Coaches Lifetime Achievement Award and the University of Dayton Distinguished Alumni Award for Christian Service. Jim served as the Director of Character Development for Hamilton City Schools, which earned a National School of Character designation during his tenure.

Janet Place

Janet Place has been an educator for 34 years, teaching high school business classes and serving as a technology coordinator in Ohio. Her experience ranges from facilitating seminars and workshops for students, educators, and community members to teaching the safe, ethical, and responsible use of technology in the classroom.

Carolyn Heller

With over 15 years in education, Carolyn Heller's expertise is geared toward helping economically-disadvantaged students and building Tier 1 Positive Behavior and Interventions Support (PBIS) programs. She is excited to empower teachers and students to find their strengths and connect with amazing educators all over the country. She currently serves as a merited school counselor in Cincinnati, Ohio.

  • All classes are virtual, asynchronous, and available on a rolling basis to best fit busy schedules.

  • No, all classes are completely asynchronous. Complete the work whenever you want, at whatever pace you want.

  • All courses can be taken for one, two or three credits. Courses can be taken at the 500 or 501 level.

  • If you have to withdraw from a class, your full tuition will be credited to a future JPS Character Education Class.

  • There are no textbooks required. However, if you take a 501 level class for three credits, you will have to read a required book. Most books are under $30 or can be borrowed from a library.

    Make sure you have an electronic device and a stable connection to complete your coursework at your own pace.

  • JPS Character Education offers accredited online courses for K-12 teachers. The courses are applicable for salary advancement and license-renewal. Our graduate credit hours are offered in collaboration with Colorado State University-Pueblo. Upon completion and passing of the course, teachers will receive an official university transcript.

  • As we have helped many educators across the country, we understand that each state has its own requirements regarding salary advancement, license renewal, and re-certification. Please seek verification prior to purchasing a course/registering for a semester.

  • We enable you to register for as many courses you would like. You can register for multiple courses at the same time and complete at your own pace.

  • All of our classes are self-paced — allowing you to complete them at your own speed.

  • Yes, you do not have to pay for the class when you begin the class, however, your grade will not be posted until you have paid for the class. It is suggested that you pay early as there is a processing time.

  • No, you can complete this course completely on your own, at your own pace, making classes quick and easy!
